I don't think that UDT's are anywhere's close to being as flexible as the Refer
Process with a
good Field Reference File at this time.    (BTW, I use SQL alot)

At COMMON I did talk to some of the developers of SQL & DB2/400 and I was trying
to convince them
to add a "Platform Speciific"  keyword to SQL to allow the refer process as we
know it.      They already
have done that in the way comments are implemented in SQL/400.     I don't think
they are that opposed to
it.    Meaning I really think they would add a REF keyword on the CREATE TABLE
command if enough
of us asked for it.

As a side question to the one asked below,   Has anyone been using Ops Nav to
create their files.
It is GUI version of the SQL create process.    Very simple.

Is anybody out there managing their entire AS400 database exclusively with
SQL and not DDS?  If so, what are the pros and cons in real life?  Has
anyone replaced their reference file with UDT's?  Is that workable?  Since
they are individual objects, how do you organize and control them?  Or, do
you just do without any kind of field referencing?

I've considered going in this direction because of all the nice PC based
modeling tools and the feeling that we might could have a more organized
database, but wonder if I'm being too rash.
