I think our society regards intellectual property less than physical
property. I know the average Joe thinks that copying software is fine.
"After all," he'll say, "if it was illegal then I wouldn't be able to do
it."

I know the software companies are starting to do more to prevent copying,
such as preventing copies of CDs from being copied (don't know how they do
it, only read about it). Again, I think that to the average Joe it is really
no different than recording E.R. to watch on Friday afternoon or recording
the latest Dixie Chicks CD to a cassette to listen to it in the car. If only
software piracy were so trivial...

Software piracy is a big deal, but until some real good anti-copying tools
are developed for the software publisher, it will probably continue. ZDNet
AnchorDesk has an interesting view of this. Basically, they feel that all
software will become shareware in the not-too-distant future. Then you can
give it away all you want. Here is the link:

we've had several ex employees do that. and somehow our society doesn't
consider that to be too awful. but if they had quit from target, and
loaded up their pickup before they left, well, that's a different story.
