In all fairness to the Internet, this sort of chicanery is not limited to web advertising. A couple of years ago, a well-known (and and generally highly regarded) magazine offered us a rave review in a "white paper" it planned to publish. As it was likely that all our competitors products would be represented, wouldnt it be prudent of us to fork over $7000 for a favorable mention...
