Standard way to accomplish it is to put an exclusive lock on some agreed
upon object (for example, on program object itself) in the beginning of
code.

Subject: How to tell if a program is active?

I need to make sure that a particular program is running only once. I do
not want multiple occurrences of this program to be running. I'm sure my
mind is already on Thanksgiving time since I can't seem to figure out how I
can check whether a certain program is active or not. Can anyone help me?
