I have been running them IBM Firewall for the AS/400 since its inception and
I am now looking for a replacement. I am curretly on V4R3 and going to V4R4
Tuesday and I shudder to think of the problems I may have. On every and I
say every release from V4R1 I have had problems getting it to run. I make
sure I download the most current PTF's and I still have to place a call to
support. It is lacking in reports. It puts overhead on your AS/400. If your
AS/400 is down for maintenance or
upgrading you have no access to the firewall and if you are running an
internal mail server you cannot receive your Email from the internet.
Support is terrible. Do yourself a favor and stay away from it. We are
looking now a either a Watchguard Firebox II or the Fort Know Policy Router.
Should you have any other questions please feel free to contact me.

*SNIP

I don't know whether to put the AS400 Firewall in the box,
or keep it outside the 400.

*ENDSNIP

I have not had good experience with the IBM firewall. We always use the
CISCO PIX firewall. It will do what you want, albeit at a much higher
initial cost. Implementation costs will then balance out between the IBM
and CISCO firewall. (IBM is much tougher to implement mainly due to IBM
lack of support and support line policies)
