You might be making some progress! The 201 error usually indicates that
the AS/400 SMTP client could not resolve the domain name of the
recipient. Are you using a mail router? If so, be sure to specify the
mail router with CHGSMTPA command. If you are not using a mail router
try pinging the domain portion of the recipient's address. So if you are
sending to "bill@acme.com" try pinging acme.com:

    ping acme.com

If the ping fails to connect the SMTP client can't find it either. You
will need to configure DNS or add the recipient's domain to your host
table.
