Ron, 

It's nice to see at least on person read the reason I was using the file.
So far I've received messages saying "We couldn't do it in SYS/36 files" and
"don't do that (use a period in the file name) because you will have to put
quotes around the file name in SQL."

Once again, the PF is used ONLY for externally describing a data structure.

anyhow, is Hans reading this?  Maybe he has the answer.  :)
