  • Subject: Re: Search400.com mining names from Midrange -L?

I posted this response late last week, but sent it without a subject line.
Some subsequent posts make me think that perhaps not everyone saw it. My
apologies to those who are seeing this a second time!

I was forwarded the earlier post on this list regarding Search400.com's
sources for email addresses, and wanted to make an immediate response to
allay any concerns of the members of this list.

First, let me say unequivocally that we have not mined names from
midrange-L or any other source, nor would we consider obtaining names in
this fashion. Our email prospects consist of a) registered members of the
Search400.com community, and b) individuals that have a business
relationship (subscriber, seminar attendee, or company-identified prospect)
with The 400 Group, our sister company in the United Communications Group
corporate structure. The 400 Group often obtains additional email
addresses from its customers, who identify other individuals at the company
that might be interested in 400 Group information.

We do not send email to people with whom we do not have a business
relationship through one of those two means. Mining names from midrange-L
or other lists would be very damaging to our business, and would yield very
little return. Our credibility with the AS/400 community is a chief asset
-- mining names from public lists can be easily detected, and would cause
tremendous damage to the trust we've established with this community.
Moreover, our database of business-relationship-qualified prospects is very
large, so mining midrange-L wouldn't yield many names that we don't already
have through one of the two methods I mentioned above. It just wouldn't
make sense from any perspective.

If you do not wish to receive emails from Search400.com, you can reply to
any message with an "unsubscribe" response, and you will be removed from
future mailings. Please feel free to contact me via email or telephone at
the number below, and I'd be happy to discuss this issue with you in
greater detail.

PS -- I apologize for the delay on your T-shirts! We recently switched
fulfillment firms, which resulted in a shipping delay. If you're waiting
on a shirt, you should be receiving it shortly.
