Carl, if IBM has a technical weakness in my opinion it is that their idea of "easy install" is sadistically warped. It is easy, yes, but it took me several weeks off and on of asking questions, waiting for answers, reading and re-reading instructions, and trial and error to get the thing working. I can't speak about PTF's and such, but your AS/400 should be already to go. For the connection to be completed you have to have the tcp/ip Code Daemon connection in your PC (that is an icon on the Start-->ADTS-->Code submenu. Then, there is a command you have to run from a green screen command line. It is STRCODE (F4) with parms identifying your workstation's IP address. Be sure to read the newsgroup "ibm.software.varpg". There is a very helpful crew at IBM that responds to questions on the newsgroup. These guys are really great and very patient. They answer questions on both Code and VARPG. To get the feel for the Code editor though you don't need to connect to the AS/400. Everything is there that you need. If all else fails, write a short program and see the feature set of Code and then cut & paste into a green screen; or cut and paste a small program into the editor.
