Having more than one default route active isn't allowed simply because it does make sense. You've either got to ensure only one of these routes is active at any one time, if they both really are default routes, or change one of them. The LAN interface doesn't have to be a default route, in fact if this is a simple network it doesn't have to be defined as a TCP/IP route at all.
