V3R7 to V4R4 - Help!! -- MIDRANGE-L

I was looking at going from V3R7 to V4R4, and have
been told that this is a two stage process:

I was told that I need to go from V3R7 to V4R3, then
go from V4R3 to V4R4.

Can anyone confirm or deny this story?
