What format is their data? We've got custom comm links to 2 EDI partners, plus an SAA link used internally. In setting up these connections, it took several weeks to get the programs written to the point where we could receive and send data cleanly. Uh, they are NOT going to get it running this week. MUAHAHAHA! Communications programming is detail work-- not really complicated, but you have to understand what the protocol you are using is going to send/receive. If you send ACK what will the other end do in return? Check out the SAA communications programming manual; there are some examples there that might be adaptable. Once again, it always depends on what the other end is sending and what they expect in return. --Paul E Musselman PaulMmn@ix.netcom.com >We have a client that needs to have a constant communication line open >to recieve data from general motors. we got involved in it late in the >project, when they've been threatened with loosing the business. > >What they will be receiving is requests for parts, in transactions that >will come about 1 a minute. > >It will be ascii data coming over a leased line with a dsu/csu >connection. this other programming company handed it off to us, after >ibm quoted $10,000-$15,000 to do it. > >so any ideas? they want to get it running this week.
