I just finished a V3R2 (310-2044 system) to V4R3 (620-2180) upgrade; the previous advice is entirely correct. Use the Roadmap; it can be a little intimidating but if you follow it thoroughly, you will be successful. Be sure you're up to the latest PTF levels on all your code. Do extra system, nonsys, dlo, ifs saves just to be sure. Be sure to pay attention to what you do after the upgrade is completed successfully. IE, don't forget that the work doesn't stop after the AS400 IPL's successfully. You may have to change device/line descriptions if you don't migrate all the hardware or if you update the hardware. We found our V3R2 user created optical library menus and CL changed because the V4 code works very differently. Plus we changed to the faster ethernet cards and had to adapt our older description (based on a NWSD) to ELAN specs. Also, you may have to consider what to do if you swap out older tape drives for different newer media types. Overall, the shorter your window for conversion, the more careful you need to be. We lucked out with a 2 week side-by-side conversion which let us test, test, test. Also, it gave us plenty of time to do program 48-64 bit conversions (which really only took a couple of hours anyways). P.S. Get plenty of memory!!! -----Original Message----- From: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-midrange-l@midrange.com] On Behalf Of Mark Beck/UAF Bookstore Sent: Saturday, May 08, 1999 4:41 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: Cisc to Risc Hi, We're just now planning to migrate from Cisc (V3R2) to RISC (V4R4) this summer. I would really appreciate hearing from others as to the best resource to plan for a successful migration (publication, video, internet site, etc.), plus any "gotcha's" from your experiences. We're moving from Model 200-2130 platform to a Model 170 server platform, if there's any "gotcha's" with such a move, we'd surely appreciate hearing those. Thanks in advance for your help!
