Bob,

If the applications are written in ANSI or POSIX C you can port them to
run on the AS/400 with some modifications for the different operating
systems. There is no way to run them without conversion. But we've done
several UNIX to AS/400 ports and it can be done. Relatively painlessly
if the developer had portation in mind. Can be a nightmare otherwise. 

At one time IBM maintained a web location that discussed UNIX
conversions to the AS/400. You might try doing a search on the
www.as400.ibm.com web site. 

You will also find Redbooks on the subject of porting UNIX applications
to the AS/400. Try this link:
