I'm not sure there is anything that can be done.  It's a perception problem 
which is resolvable through marketing which IBM doesn't do well.  Now  JAVA 
is cool but the perception is that while JAVA does cool color graphics, 
RPG/COBOL can only do green (or amber) and since the AS/400 only does 
green, it can't do JAVA (or CGI). That's not cool or sexy.

I'd be the last person to try to argue against that.  To
illustrate, compare CGI programming in RPG versus Perl.

Now, let's assume that being "cool" is a desirable
quality in a programming language.  If we were to try to
change RPG from an "uncool" language to a "cool" language,
is there a single easy thing we could do to improve the
language?
