>]Rob B said], I wonder about the 'bad experience' with Notes. We have
Notes here and seem perfectly happy with it. However we don't use Notes as
a word processor or for mail merging. I have a feeling that mail merging
with Notes is probably not a user function but would require scripting or
something.

IBM is very clear about this: Lotus Domino/Notes is _not_ recommended as a
mail merge replacement for OV/400. Yes, you could shoehorn a cobbly solution
together, but it wouldn't be mail merge like you're used to. Domino does
replace most other components, but not the merge piece.

The world is gonna beat a path to a vendor's door for a good mail-merge
replacement for OV/400. Maybe there is one out there now, anyone heard of
one?

As Rob suggests, there are many work arounds (another good one is using FTP
from the AS/400 to issue PC commands), but they don't approach the
reliability of good ol' OV/400 (hey, now that it's all but dead, we start to
appreciate it!).

Be careful pigeonholing Notes based on hearsay. Its merge capabilities
aside, it is a very strong product and should be considered by every AS/400
shop.
