I have used DDM in an OptiConnect Environment. Performance was fantastic. It was
faster than having the files on the local machine! (And I have a bridge for
sale!) Actually, the performance impact was unnoticable. We used this in
connection with High Availability software, with programs on one 400, data on
machine 2, mirrored data and copy of programs on machine 3. Configuration was
not
difficult, but I did not have to fill in all the blanks, just make sure my
applications behaved. There were also replacements for some commands, like
DSPFD.
DSPFD would retrieve the description from machine B, and display the results on
Machine A. These commnds were part of OptiConnect, so I think some of the
hassles
of using ethernet would be eliminated. One bummer was that all journal entries
on
the remote system were done by the same program/job... Yup, the opticonnect
program. Could be a hassle if you use journals for debugging. If you need more
info, let me know.
