Raj, I'm not sure what you mean for #1. APIs are designed to be used in HLL programs. You HLL is going to provide support for File IO. Deleted records are stored in the PF indefinitely unless you "reuse deleted records" or reorg the file. If you DSPFD a physical file, you'll see in the member list a count of deleted records. These records live in the PF, but are marked by OS400 as "deleted" and therefore cannot be directly accessed. SAVF copies everything in the physical file, including the "deleted" records. All you're doing is finding the deleted record, copying the record image, and creating a new record with the same data as the deleted record. eric.delong@pmsi-services.com ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: APIs for file-reords Author: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > at INET_WACO Date: 12/23/98 4:18 PM Hi Everybody, Another set of stupid questions: 1. Is(are) there API(s) for accessing records from the file? 2. Where does the system keeps deleted records and where are the delete flags stored? 3. How come SAVF stores informations such as Delete flags, CRC etc. when PF doesnot, and not even file description? Thanks, Rajeev. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
