I am not sure if you can do this with RUNQRY.  But QMQRY allows this and
it works beautifully.  We use it for many quick and dirty reports.  It
will even prompt for variable values interactively if you want, although
the interface is not very user friendly.  But in batch you can pass
replacement variable values very nicely.  See the CRTQMQRY and STRQMQRY
command helps for more information.

     Eg.  I have built a query using WRKQRY and in the select records I
have to mention 
                Deptno = :Wsdptno where WSDPTNO can be a user defined
variable 

        Any suggestions with an example will help me more...
