Ok how? I am new at networks. What gets the static IP the router or the AS400? And how does the PC with client access find the AS400? If you can direct me to the manual I need to read that will help also. A firewall may be useful to prevent that, but your real desire is to get communicating as easily and quickly as possible. Set up your machine, put it on the lan, get fixed ip addresses from your isp and have a go. It is my opinion that if you think of the internet as you think of your phone services you will have a better feel for your security needs. > +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
