I can't think of an ATM I've used that wasn't GUI - hit this button for $20, this for $50, etc. I think the primary benefit of a GUI is reducing the learning curve. Think about it - you can gointo almost any Windows program and know at least the basics of how to work it just because you know other Windows programs. Compar that to the first time you saw that old WordPerfect blue screen in DOS... But i am a beleaver in the "green-screen myth". The general idea is that data entry is faster when you keep your fingers on the keyboard instead of going to the mouse every time to select from a pull down list. AHA! THERE is a clue. Many, MANY people do not use the mouse efficiently! The mouse is GREAT for navigation, but not for operations. Learn and use the keyboard shortcuts. :::PS could you imagine an ATM machine using a GUI! I have. Works nice, very nice.
