  • Subject: Automated dialing to PCs w/data transfer

We would like to be able to write an application for the AS400 to do the
following:
- dial into a PC at a remote site
- download database files to the PC
- run an Access application on the PC
- upload database files to the AS400
- report any part of the process that was unsuccessful
- repeat the above steps for multiple sites

Some background: The PC application that is using the data was created with
Microsoft Access, therefore the data is stored in Access tables. I'm
imagining that the data may need to be exported to text files on the PC for
uploading to the AS400. The uploaded data will need to be appended to an
AS400 database file for processing.

We have a process in place now to do the above but it is a very unautomated:
We're using a PC using PC Anywhere to dial into the remote site's PC. The
host PC has an Access database to accumulate uploaded data, which is then
appended to AS400 files via ODBC.

We would like to eliminate the intermediate PC used to dial into the remote
site and have the AS400 manage the whole process.

I'm looking for ideas, internet sites, books, or anything that will bring me
closer to implementing the above.
