You don't need a book. Order the PSP info PTF Cover letters for
installing the release you are going to (and it's a good idea to also
look at the ones for the releases you are skipping) with SNDPTFORD.

Instead of SNDPTFORD and downloading the cover letters, you can view
them online at :
http://as400service.rochester.ibm.com/as4sde/sline003.nsf/sline003home

or start at http://as400service.rochester.ibm.com/as400/service.html
and select Technical Information Database, then Preventive Service
Planning.
Look for the Software Installation Information document when searching
by release.

To find the correct PTF # for the "PSP Info for Installing" first look
at the general PSP info PTF cover for the release (ie. for V3R2M0 it's
SF98320). Near the top of that PTF cover letter you'll find listed the
PTF for PSP Installation:

PSP information for installing Version 3 Release 2.0 : SF98070
including AS/400 PRPQ service recommendations :

Then order SF98070 and read the details, including the info on required
PTF's like MF10575.
You'll find that the V2R3 PTF MF10575 has been replaced by MF18086.

You should also review the "Memo to Users" PTF Covers for the release
you are going to, AND for all release you are skipping.
Version 3 Release 2.0 Installation - "Read This First" : SF98076
Version 3 Release 2.0 Installation - "Memo to Users" :

This memo is included in the shipped software for the release you
order, but not for any skipped releases. You can get it all via
SNDPTFORD or online.
