How to Convert to lowercase in SQL -- MIDRANGE-L

While there is an upper function such as:

     Select upper(text) from data

there is today no lower function.  One way to accomplish your goal
though would be the translate function:

     Select translate(text, 'abcdefg...', 'ABCDEFG...') from data

where the '...' means to finish the alphabetic characters.
