I agree. A lot of BP's just ship out a tape with the as/400s they
sell, and that's the end of the deal. Some are better than others.

But an IBM stamp of approval should in no way replace the hard work of
researching a packages worth. Anyone who would pay that much money on
anything without checking references and actually seeing it working in
a real world environment, deserves any problems they get.

We do not sell, re-sell, distribute or recommend any particular
"package". Our value-adds are custom software development, systems
integration and www related. We typically make more on services after
the sale than on the hardware. We pride ourselves on building long
relationships with our customers.

Certification isn't a necessity, but there are some tangable and
intangable benefits. It can be a good gauge of the progress of a jr
programmer and it helps some people in the area of job satisfaction.

It's not an end in itself, just another piece of the puzzle.

We give bonuses for those who pass certs (not just IBM's). We pay for
the first test and if they fail, they pay for additional tests until
they pass. We then reimburse for the last test. It's not a perfect
system, but it DOES encourage them to study hard so they don't fail.
