My CISC V3R2 machine is way behind on  CUMS or and we do not have Object 
Connect loaded but were able to successfully do the FTP.  Just FYI

Interesting problem.  I presume the V3R2 machine is current on PTF cum
packages ?
(There WERE several PTF's quite a while back that corrected some
incompatibility problems when restoring on V3R2 from RISC systems).  I
have successfully done this between a V4R2 system (at cum level
C8195420) and a V3R2 system (cum level C8139320).

Also - have you tried the following.

V3R2 & V4R2 both contain a no charge optional OS/400 part called
ObjectConnect (OS/400 Part 22).  If you don't have it, it's on your
