Fairly recent releases of TCP/IP allow dialin to an AS/400 on an async
(RS-232) line, using SLIP (and PPP, maybe, on v4r2). TC&R (TCP/IP Config &
Ref) has the details. You'd probably want some kind of special modem that
allows multiple calls in and connects to a single AS/400 line—someone else
must know the details.

The advantage of this over Internet access (which assumes a network) is
that it assumes a fairly high degree of privacy, as long as the phone
number is not widely publicized.
