Only way I can think of is a two pass method.

1.) Using query read through your file sorted in CUST# order. Summarize
Min and Max on the date field. Break on CUST#. Output to a database file
summary only. This should create a file with CUST#, MIN CCYYMMDD, MAX
CCYYMMDD.

2.) Use query to join your original file with the new file and you should
be able to calculate your days doing business....

Let me know if I'm on target...

BTW, I briefly worked at one of your sister companies RGA (now defunct of
course).....

Hi All,
Question: I have a simple transaction file (physical file) I have to
process for a report, this file is sequenced by CUST# then CCYYMMDD.
Now for the summary query reporting on the CUST#, I want get the (MIN)
and the (MAX) in the CCYYMMDD field (column) so I can do the math in the
query using the 2 fields (MIN) and (MAX) in order to arrive at the
number of days we've done business with this Customer. Suggestions
appreciated on how I convert the (MIN) and the (MAX) to useable field
names within the query.
TIA
