RE: Tape backup solutions

You can go beyond 100 ft. if necessary, but it requires an RPQ (see
reference RPQ # 841958).
Basically you add a bus expansion unit to the system, connected by
fiber-optic cable, and stick the controller for the tape drive in that
and attach the tape unit to it.  So for example, you could have a second
computer room with another system several hundred feet away from the
first.  In that room you would have the backup AS/400, the tape dribe
(with two system attach feature), and a bus expansion unit connected by
fiber-optic cable from the other AS/400 in your other computer room.
Using this you can easily go 400 meters away from the system, and
depending on type of fiber-optic cable and the data bus rate it may even
be possible to place the tape drive 2km away.
