Simon,

There are several FTP subcommands related to character conversion.
They include TYPE, ASCII, EBCDIC, and BINARY.  There are also optional
parameters on the FTP command itself; they are CCSID, TBLFTPOUT, and
TBLFTPIN.

Using one or more of the above, you should be able to get correct/desired
character conversion.
