The null flag is a separate entity on the database, and the display file has no way of "seeing" that flag. So, if there's whatever value is there it will display unless a) you've taken steps to prevent it's display within the RPG program or b) it contains a known value (such as 01/01/0001 that you can use MAPVAL to map it to blanks on the screen.
