Additionally the Perle controller has to be configured to accept ProComm. 
I think the controller has three options: Ptalk, Procomm, or Ptalk &
procomm.  Also it may be worthwhile to talk to Perle's tech people. They
are great and they will configure/update your controller for you over the
phone.

At least, they did that for a client last summer.
