  IBM AS/400e series ANNOUNCEMENT - NEW SOLUTION OPTIONS 
 10/28/97 

 AS/400e series offers leading business solutions for the world of 
 global computing, network and collaborative computing, and support for 
 capitalizing on e-commerce opportunities. Today IBM is announcing 
 additional options to help adapt solutions to customer requirements: 

  A NEW MODEL 620 PROCESSOR.. 
 A new feature #2175 Model 620 Processor is added to provide strong 
 performance (50 CPW) at considerably lower cost than the previous entry 
 to the Model 620, the feature #2179 processor (85.6 CPW). 

  OPTIONAL BASE 512 MB MAIN STORAGE.. 
 Makes initial main storage configurations and upgrades more flexible 
 for Models S30, S40, 640 and 650.  The new 512 MB feature, along with 
 the previously available Optional Base 1024 MB Main Storage feature 
 increases maximum main storage to 12.2 GB on Models S30 and 640. 

  INCREASED NUMBER OF WORKSTATION CONTROLLERS.. 
 To better support interactive workload requirements on custom mixed- 
 mode e-servers Models S20 and S30.  The maximum number of workstation 
 controllers is increased significantly on systems shipped from the 
 plant on or after November 14, 1997. You are no longer limited to 
 seven active devices per system on these e-servers. 

  JBA INTERNATIONAL SOFTWARE PRELOAD.. 
 The popular System 21 V3.5 software from JBA International joins other 
 software from Independent Software Vendors that now can be preloaded 
 on AS/400e custom servers. 

 Planned availability for the above is November 14, 1997.  For 
 additional information about the above announcements, please refer 
 to announcement letter 197-316 dated October 28, 1997. 


  NEW SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION MEDIA AND PUBLICATION CHANGES 

 Selected hardcopy publications, previously available at no charge, are 
 now available for a fee.  A CD-ROM with publications is shipped with the 
 Operating System/400. Selected hardcopy publications are shipped with 
 some products to enable installation and minimal use of the product. 
 Additional hardcopy publications and copies of the CD-ROM are available 
 for a fee. 

 Software distribution media for V3R2, previously available at no charge, 
 are now available for a fee.  IBM now adds a processing charge on orders 
 to upgrade to V3R2.  This charge covers creation of the stacked tapes, 
 media, documentation, and shipping. The processing charge does not apply 
 to refresh orders from existing V3R2 customers. 

 For additional information regarding the publication and software 
 distribution media changes, please refer to announcement letter 297-451 
 dated October 28, 1997.  Planned effective date is October 28, 1997
