You might try putting the following in the HTTP configuration file:

# * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
# Disable reverse DNS lookup to speed up access        
# * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Dnslookup Off                                          

The operative entry is the 'Dnslookup Off' statement. Without this, a
reverse lookup takes place, and this can really slow everything down.
