To all

You might be able to save some bucks with your Client Access installation. On v3r7 and later, the non-licensed features of Client Access are part of OS/400, hence no additional cost. Announcement came out in February, 1997. We wondered about the status if you're not on v3r7, e.g., our v3r2 machines. Here's the scoop:

If you have one licensed client, the non-licensed portions are available to all other clients at no cost.

The following components require a Client Access license:

· PC5250 Display and Printer Emulator
· Data Transfer
· SNA Communications Support (NetSoft Router)

The extra functionality & customization of PC5250 may not be needed for many users-macros, keyboard remapping, etc. Graphical Access may provide an adequate emulation.

FTP is, IMO, completely adequate to the task of data transfer.

You've probably heard what I think of the SNA router--avoid it at all costs--use native TCP/IP instead.

The following components do not require a Client Access license:

· Base support
· AS/400 Operations Navigator
· Graphical Access
· AFP Workbench Viewer
· AFP Printer Driver
· SCS Printer Driver
· Application Development Toolkit
· Additional languages

So we have some options. Check it out.
