Hi Bob,

Here we are again--finger-pointing forever.

I have a couple situations at work that sound like the script you published
here. One is a Dell laptop that works fine in a docking station connected
to our Novell network. When I install CA95 it hangs at the network signon
window. Take CA95 off, it works fine. I call the Family and get the 'not
supported' crap (pardon me). I say, "The machine works fine without CA95.
It hangs when CA95 goes on. It works fine again when CA96 is taken off.
Duh! What's different?"

Recently one of our people heard, at an IBM presentation here, that IBM was
no longer in the finger-pointing game. My experience is that the CA people
haven't heard the message yet.

I'd mentioned to you another example here-a PC on which I wanted to install
only the ODBC driver. It turns out that you cannot put on only the driver,
you have to install the entire Base portion of CA95. (Shout to follow) THIS
REALLY STINKS! (I'm calm now).
And when I install CA95 on this machine, it locks up, again around the
network signon window, not allowing password entry. Again, what's different
here?

CA support will gladly tell you to arrange for a ConsultLine contract, and
IF the problem turns out to be CA, we don;t have to pay for it. THIS ALSO
STINKS, IMO. (Oops, lost it again-sorry)

I've put this on the list, 'cuz the more that hear it, maybe the more IBM
will do something--I hope.

To repeat, it is not possible to install only the ODBC driver, without the
entire Base portion of CA. CA is the only ODBC provider that works this
way, AFAIK. It _is_ a good driver, but this restriction is really frustrating.

Cheers
