Many thanks to Nigel, that did the trick! I didn't even know that setting was 
there. That's one more thorn that has come out of my side.

Mike,
        Have you tried going into the control panel and the internet icon
and then unchecking the connect to internet as needed from the connections
tab, if it is checked that will be your problem.
