I'd agree with him, excepting that it hasn't happened yet, and really isn't any closer now than it has been for sometime. There always seems to be "problems" that creep in; file-sharing, record-locking, database administration, security, hardware conflicts, changing software bundles, accelerated changes (how would you like to be just finishing your 10-year development program of your business MIS department, based on Win 3.1?) and the unreliabilty of the hardware and operating systems. Rebooting www.microsoft.com throws off a few thousands of users who then have to start over. That's no big deal. But if they were on the payroll and the PC had to be rebooted as often as www.microsoft.com, the boss would go ballistic. Reliabilty just isn't there. Neither is response times when there is file sharing. 75 people throwing new records into QuickBooks all day isn't anywhere near ready to happen.
