  • Subject: AS/400 PSF TCP/IP Attachment for Channel Printers
  • From: Paul Tykodi <pault@xxxxxxxxx>

Hi,

IBM, working in partnership with a company called Apex Concepts, is introducing
an ISA card for a PC that allows a channel attached printer (example IBM 3825,
3827, 3828, 3835, 3800, 3900) to be connected via a TCP/IP network connection.
This new capability allows a channel attached printer to be available to all
IBM AFP capable hosts (possibility to create IPDS and/or AFPDS data streams)
that are attached to the TCP/IP network.

Further information is listed below:

<excerpts from Apex Concepts e-mail>

Here is information on our DISPATCH system.

As I mentioned,we have established an agreement with IBM to implement their
proprietary PSF-AFP TCP/IP ATTACHMENT FUNCTIONAL SPECIFICATION in our DISPATCH
Channel product.

DISPATCH will allow Legacy (or any-Xerox, Seimans, etc.) AFP Channel printer to
be directly attached to a TCP/IP network and function as an AFP/IPDS network
printer. Deliveries begin in July.

One area of interest to IBM is the AS400 market. TCP/IP is inexpensive to
implement and OS400 supports PSF/IPDS printing. The DISPATCH product provides
and inexpensive solution for AS400 shops to communicate with legacy or
refurbished Channel AFP printers for PSF/IPDS production printing.

Further information is available from IBM and Apex Concepts. Please send a
private e-mail to me if you would like the contact information we have received
about this product.

/Paul
