Steven, In a message dated 97-06-20 19:04:01 EDT, you write: > >Will someone tell me WHY > > a person that's just doing order entry NEEDS a PC??? With all the latest > > windows stuff???? > > > To look up and packages shipped by UPS or RPS, on the web > To append artwork for custom made items, for mfg. No offense, but you obviously are familiar with order entry clerks FAR more savvy than Don and I usually deal with :-)! Oddly enough, I know so-called "unskilled" workers on shipping/receiving docks that are FAR more computer literate than most order entry clerks (the latter supposedly require advanced computer skills for their jobs -- and the former are the ones dealing with UPS and RPS via PC). Most order entry clerks I deal with have difficulty using "self-executing" word processing macros, despite the fact that they use the WP package on a daily basis. Appending artwork for custom made items? Are you serious? Do users fix their own software problems in your world too ;-)? Usually, order entry clerks are busy complaining about the speed of the system as a reason for their constantly being behind in their work, but cannot reproduce the speed problems with a Management and IS employee standing in their cubicle. I agree with Don. Why DOES an order entry clerk need GUI applications? JMHO, Dean Asmussen Enterprise Systems Consulting, Inc.
