I was doing research for a prospective client. >First assume: > you do nothing but straight convert > - You can project being done and fully tested by (date) >Second place ILE in the project(keep all resources the same) the new date >is? >Now the final costs are for each? >benefits? >If it flies sell it to the person writingyour company's checks. >Do let me know how this figures for your case. I believe that if your long term plans are to futher develop the company's DP assets, then adding date data types to your DB is a positive strategic move (vs. strictly a defensive one w/ little additional value). Doing a simple conversion to ILE RPG using the simple conversion pgm IBM is a no-brainer. The immediate benefit is that you need not specify compiler options and don't have the RPG/400 limitations regarding date fileds. The benefit to the Y2K effort is that the major routines that had to be done to do date verification and arithmetic is reduced to a bare minimum. This should, in most cases, more than balance out the effort to any additional work using this method. After you are done what are you left with? A system that has bitten the bullet on RPG IV and a DB that can more easily use SQL and query products. -mark * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This is the Midrange System Mailing List!
