Charlie, >I wish IBM would start charging for CL and DDS separately from OS/400. That >way there would be a revenue stream which would justify enhancements for >existing users. As it is now, if the work does not sell NEW AS/400's, it is >not done. It's that kind of thinking that discourages corporations from going (or sticking) with the /400. We don't want to be nickled and dimed. This is one of the things that is traditionally pointed out by the midrange loyalists. CL and DDS are too crucial to be unbundled. Example: I don't have any statistics, but I'm guessing that since AFP was unbundled it's been in a steady decline. I predict a slow but sure death that will lose them a lot more $$$ than if they hadn't charged for it. AFP capable printers cost considerably more than their non-AFP and PCL counterparts. They will lose that revenue, the AFPU revenue and will still have to support the product for a while. There must be some other way of convincing IBM that these improvements are a good overall strategy. -mark * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This is the Midrange System Mailing List!
