Comment on rebuilding your system after a failure. 80+% of the system that are
rebuilt after a disaster are rebuilt incorrectly. Of that number, 72% of the
80% don't even know that it was rebuilt incorrectly. 5% know it was but don't
admit that it was done incorrectly because of job security. The University of
Texas at Arlington and the University of Minnesota has done a big study on
disaster recovery. Unfortunately, because one does saves on libraries they
think they are AOK. I know of a company that did a SAVCHGOBJ of all user
libraries every night. They said *no to saving files which were journaled.
When they went to rebuild their system. Guess what, the most critical files
which they had journaled were not saved. It took them week to rebuild the data.
Plus they backed up User Profiles once a month. However, they made changes in
profiles on a daily basis. Guess what happend to authority and ownership of
objects? Moral of the story. Just because you are saved libraries does not
mean that you are protected.
