I'm working with an old /38 manual and release 3 /400 manual, I never thought to look at current documentation since it has been my experience that IBM tends to remove more and more data and especially information as Manuals get revised. this is a pleasant surprise.

FYI the on-line (and PDF) reference for the MATPG instruction explains:
format segments, array segments, and extension segments can follow a symbol
name in a symbol table.
