Joe,
I LOVE the machine. You should have heard me give MI classes at COMMON.
I do not like what IBM is trying to do to the machine: making it into a
me-too
unix look-a-like. And I do not appreciate the "closedness" of the system,
where almost nobody knows how it REALLY works. At the recent COMMON
I heard a speaker (at the opening session) shout that the message we
should give our customers is that the machine does not matter, the OS does
not matter, the language does not matter. The e-server was just an
"integrated data switch" (or some other linguistic monstrosity).
I'm dumbfounded at why you think I hate the machine.
I would say that the AS/400 architecture ranks up there with the
RC4000 operating system as one of the foremost jewels of
computing.
