A simple solution is to do the following on your spreadsheet:

1. Highlight the column with the errors
2. Click the DATA tab
3. Click the "Text to Columns" icon, it will start a series of 3 steps.
4. Click next on step 1
5. Click next on step 2
6. Select "Text" on step 3
7. Click "Finish"

The problem is that if any of your part numbers are only digits 0-9, Excel tries to read them as numbers, particularly if the column is defaulted to "general" instead of text. Even if you reformat the column to text, the problem still occurs.

Subject: [MAPICS-L] Excel upload of alpha numeric causes exponential data

I have 15 character item numbers with alpha numeric data. Some of those numbers are converted to data like this 2.1E+007 using Excel addin to upload spreadsheet to iSeries. What do I need to do to the spreadsheet before importing to iSeries?
