Hi list!

Just want to share few notes I have compiled from MAPICS INFOR about this
subject and I hope it helps somehow:

EPDM is an application that provides 'enhanced' PDM function. It provides
the capability to have multiple revisions of the same item number, and
multiple bills of materials and routings for one item number. It allows
'generic' routings that can be attached to many end items, so that a
change to this one routing will cause all items to be updated. It
provides mass maintenance capabilities. The client interface provides the
ability to look at information in many ways. The capability exists to
define multiple sites, either production or simulation. A simulation site
is typically used for running costing simulations.

The EPDM files are all keyed by site. The site is typically a location in
which manufacturing activities are performed. Different locations that
share manufacturing facilities or bills of material would belong to the
same site. A site is associated with a specific warehouse in the WHSMST
file.

The enterprise item file ITMENT has one record for every item number in
use across all sites. The released item file ITMREL has 1 record for the
released revision of every item number. You can only have one released
revision of an item across all sites. The ITEMASA, - B, -C will only be
updated by the released revision.

The ITMRVA, -B, -C files are keyed by site, item number and revision, and
are the equivalent of the item master files. Each item revision has an
equivalent item process record. ITMPRC. You can have primary or alternate
item process records. You can have multiple primary item process records,
but they must be exclusive by effectivity date....that is no effectivity
date overlaps.

The ITMPRC record points to the bill of material and the routing that is
used. If the alternate BOM id is blank, then the item
number/site/revision is used to retrieve the record from the PSTHDR
file....which then points to the PSTDTL file that lists all of the
components. If the alternate BOM id is not blank, then that value
/site/revision is used to retrieve the record from the PSTHDR file....and
PSTDTL file. Different item revisions with identical bills of materials
would use the same alternate bill of material ID. Then one change to this
bill would affect all item process records that reference the alternate
bill of material ID.

The ITMPRC record contains the routing ID and version that defines the
routing information. That information and site is used to retrieve the
RTGHDR and RTGOPR record information.

The equivalent of the work center file WRKCTR is the FACMST, facility
master file, and the key to that file is site/production facility number.

When a manufacturing order is created, you can select the revision and/or
process that you wish to use for the warehouse that is entered. If no
revision is entered, the default is *cur, which will use the current
effective revision as of the manufacturing start date, and will use the
BOM and routing associated with the primary process of that revision.

At XAR6, there are some applications, such as COM and PUR that are not
fully integrated with EPDM. In certain cases, these applications will use
the information contained in the item master files, which represent the
released revision across all sites.

List of EPDM files and corresponding PDM files.
EPDM file PDM file (equivalent)
ITMRVA ITEMASA
ITMRVB ITEMASB
ITMRVC ITEMASC
ITMPRC (NEW FILE)
ITMREL (NEW FILE)
PSTHDR (NEW FILE)
See below for more information
PSTDTL (PSTRUC)
RTGHDR (NEW FILE)
See below for more information
RTGOPR (ROUTNG)
RTGODS (RTGDSC)
FACMST (WRKCTR)
WRKLST (NEW FILE)

PSTHDR contains the following fields that were in ITEMASA
NOSLC - Number of single level components
SBQTY - Standard batch quantity

RTGHDR contains that following fields that were in ITEMASA
CUMSY - standard cumulative yield
CUMCY - current cumulative yield
NOROP - Number of routing operations
RTCHG - Routing change

WARNING:
1) The following PDM files will no longer be used when EPDM is activated:
PSTRUC
ROUTNG
RTGDSC
WRKCTR

2) If you plan to use more than one site and / or more than one revision,
you may need to start thinking about dealing with a strategy to deal with
all your queries that are using ITEMASx files.
