Hello Lloyd,

We've developed two of our own order entry applications that work with
MAPICS data, outside of MAPICS, that feed MAPICS through the off-line load
process. We did this to handle some unique business requirements that we
had with our marketing programs (also outside of MAPICS, but supported
through MAPICS history files) and various financial institution
requirements for selling our products. We did two because our one product
line is shipped from stock inventory (our pop-up trailers), and the other
is make-to-order, using Features and Options for configuration. It
actually isn't too difficult, but our programs are quite lengthy, as we
handle the data within MAPICS through structured comment lines. And as
anyone who has worked with COM comments, they are a total JOY to deal with.

We've also done some special "one-shot" programs to load orders from batch
files to support various marketing program offerings (shipping no-charge
giveaways, etc). Once you get the process down, it's actually fairly
simple.

If you give me some specific questions you have regarding the process, I
would be pleased to assist. Normally, I offer to send a TXT or PDF of the
source code, but you would find massive amounts of totally unrelated code
to display screens and collect information that feeds the comment lines
throughout the order.

Incidentally, we also developed an extensive Warranty Claim processing
system (WCFields wasn't able to handle all the requirements at the time -
don't know about now), that generates credit memos to pay the claims. We
then process them through MAPICS Off-line shipping process - an absolutely
outstanding free tool from MAPICS Support that has saved our company a
whole buncha money. But that's another story......

At any rate, we have extensive experience in loading orders (and credits)
through the off-line load process. It's quite powerful, once you
understand it.

We use WcFields for RMA processing, are running MAPICS Rel 6. When RMAs
are completed, WcFields creates a COM order through Off-line load.

We then manually process off-line orders after reviewing them for errors
once or twice a day.
We are now trying to figure out how to create Orders/quotes from another
non-MAPICS application and be able to selectively process these instead of
the ones Created with WcFields, using the AS/400 job scheduler

Has anyone come up with a cleaver way of doing something like this? Or
have you come up with a different way to create a Quote/Order outside of
MAPICS?

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.
