Patrick, I assume that you are very time-constrained and that you are valuing inventory at standard cost. Your best approach is to forget about those messed-up MO's and focus on getting the physical inventory right. The resulting physical inventory adjustments will undo the MO errors.. If you use this approach be careful about two things: (1) Component items issued to MO's that have not been consumed should be returned to stock and included in the physical inventory; (2) Do not change your standard costs until you have updated MAPICS to reflect the physical.

Once you get past the crisis, issue new MOs for the items that were on the closedout MOs but not actually manufactured.

Subject: items found in production that have already been RM-ed

We are in the middle of a physical inventory, and have run across a
situation that unfortunately affects a lot of items on the floor. We have to
prevent this mistake in the future, but, unfortunately, I have to fix its
problems today.

Several MOs have production keyed (RMs) against them, and the MO has been
closed out, when in fact the production is not complete. For example, an MO
has been set up, PC/IP-ed, RM-ed, and closed. Now at inventory time we
discover that the production is not actually done for this item, but it was
keyed into the system as if it were.

My suggestion is to open the MO again, and do a negative RM. However, the
concern is that this will cause bigger problems without the supporting PC/IP
transactions. Will this work, or is there a better way?

We update inventory in Batch mode, if that makes any difference (I can't use
the "R" completion code, for instance, that seems like it may work).
