ping is an A record,  Mail routes on an MX record. the MX record shows an 
address of 65.40.78.139. 

Also you don't want to ping.

Issue command 

 
TELNET RMTSYS('65.40.78.139') 
       PORT(25) 

If you get a 220 response you have a valid connection to the remote mail 
system.

said it was "Apparently OK!", and it only had one minor irritant with it's 

failure to understand the ESMTP EHLO greeting.  But I've read that a lot 
of people turn that off and I don't think it's a big deal either.

Mail stays stuck in the various mailx.box files on the Domino server.

Where do I go from here?
